“Winter is a season of recovery and preparation” – Paul Theroux
This quote seemed to be perfect to go along with the photo of me enjoying the beauty at the Biltmore Conservatory in Asheville, North Carolina. As you can imagine, Helene was not kind to the property or the city of Asheville. Fortunately, the Conservatory was not damaged, and it and other areas of the property on the Biltmore Estate will be open for Christmas at Biltmore until January 5th. It’s a don’t-miss opportunity.
There’s lots not to miss in this winter issue of atHome. Two in-town homes and one lake home will draw your attention. Each house is unique and decorated with panache. Murals have become quite prominent on our city buildings, but they also pop up in houses. We have two extremely lovely murals that speak to our country’s history in Periscope. Some yummy family recipes appear in the Pantry article, just in time for the approaching holidays. In the Detours story, check out Clarksville, Tennessee, for an interesting place to visit. If you’ve been looking for some hand-crafted neutral-toned pottery, you’ll find it in Composition. Treasure will take you back in time to learn when Chinoiserie became popular—and it still is.
There’s more to discover and we hope you find delight in each article.
Enjoy! And have a merry holiday season.
