Sitting Room: Here Comes the Sun

Caroline Brackett created sunny serenity in this Chanticleer sitting room.

For Josh and Allison Henderson, clients in Chanticleer, Caroline Brackett made the most of a sitting area just off the primary bedroom, recognizing its potential as a sunroom space just right for rest and relaxation.

With floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the golf course, the room receives loads of natural light—perfect for reading and unwinding, but tough on fabrics. The team knew a high priority would be choosing fabrics that resist fading, and went with chaise lounges upholstered in a luxurious plush velvet designed for indoor-outdoor use.

Since the room was an addition to an existing space, Brackett wanted to make sure the decor complemented the adjacent bedroom. “It’s a very calming color palette of blue and white. The client loves blue,” Brackett says.

The windows, which slide open to take in breezes and peaceful water views, are dressed in fresh stripes, as is the easy-care rug from Stark Carpet Co. Two walls are made up of floor-to-ceiling windows, while a third is dominated by French doors leading to a sunny porch.

An inviting desk space showcases an antique secretary the Hendersons already owned. “We love to mix in clients’ existing pieces with the new,” Brackett says. She created a cozy nook for writing and creativity with a Highland House chair topped with more performance fabric by Link fabrics.

The team topped off the sunroom with an attention-grabbing chandelier from Currey & Co., drawn to its antique gold-leaf finish and the silver-leaf spikes covering each bulb. Soft yet durable, cozy yet bright, old and new, traditional and current: the carefully curated details worked together to create a room that is a favorite spot for the couple to read, relax, and enjoy time together.
