Every feature in atHome offers a wealth of inspiration: creative interior design, unique architecture, beautiful artwork, scenic settings, and of course, the fascinating people who build, design, and live in the homes. This year’s top five stories run the gamut, though the top two spots are occupied by appealing examples of gracious lakeside living. Mid-mod style, a design survey, and a very popular pickle piece round out a varied list of the stories that grabbed readers’ attention this year.

Top 5 atHome Stories of 2022

The Beacon on the Hill

The Trammell’s Lake Hartwell home from the summer issue of atHome was the most popular story of the year. This one-of-a-kind lakeside home serves as a beacon to passersby, ushers in a legacy for years to come, and forges an unshakeable family bond.

Against the Grain

Lake Hartwell didn’t get all of the glory in 2022. This Lake Keowee cottage story from the fall issue of atHome was the second-most popular story of 2022. The cottage owned by Devin and Vanessa Burnett told a unique story with its modern lines, cozy accents, and global decor.

The Perfect Pickle

The most popular food and drink story of 2022 for atHome was a pickling recipe. Traditional pickling may seem overwhelming. However, these simple recipes for pickling tomatoes, carrots, and squash create a wellspring of flavors for any dish.

Mad for MOD

Our preview of the gvlMOD tour, which took place in April of 2022 after a three-year hiatus, was one of the most popular stories of the year. The preview gave special insight into the homes available on the tour. Stay tuned to atHome for more information on next year’s tour, which is tentatively scheduled for April 2023.

The Designer’s Survey

We debuted a new recurring feature in 2022: a designer survey featuring insights from local interior designers. In the first edition of the designer’s survey, local experts gave us the 411 on paint colors and wallpaper patterns that turn a house into a home.
