Notes from Home – Spring 2023

“Springtime is the land awakening. The March winds are the morning yawn.”

—Lewis Grizzard

It’s always pleasant to say hello to spring once again, especially after this past winter when the temperatures were not so kind to us. We will put that behind us, though, and embrace the trees, plants, and flowers as they reawaken from their nap. Unfortunately, the snakes will be doing the same thing, and that’s not so pleasant. However, that’s a topic for another issue.

As you can see from the photo, I have several plants inside that need constant attention. There are 14 more that aren’t seen here. And I don’t mind at all. Some of them have been in our sunroom for several years, and it amazes me that I have been able to keep them thriving. Maybe it’s because they can embrace the pleasure that I feel from seeing them daily. They are a fine substitute for those outside plants that are not currently ready to show off their colors.

We have a multitude of informative articles in this spring issue. Our feature homes are loaded with details, thanks to the marvelous choices that expert interior designers and decorators made for their clients. Our Trade Folio article is back with more suggestions for “when to splurge,” and in Periscope, you’ll see two remarkable exterior transformations that just might leave you in awe and inspired. And we feature a garden/courtyard that is unique.

If you have been thinking of where to travel without having to go too far, check out the Detours article for some great tips for exploring Athens, Georgia. And if you’ve been considering getting your own chickens (who hasn’t since the prices of eggs have gone up so drastically?), then you’ll want to read the A&A article for advice on Chickens vs. Ducks. It might change your choice of bird. Speaking of animals, check out the Composition article and see examples of Greg Ramsey’s portraits. They are not traditional, but they are oh so fun.

Of course, there is more, and I hope you will explore to discover the rest.

Enjoy!
