The lost art of lingering with loved ones shapes the pottery of Kindred Makery

There’s nothing special about a cup of coffee. Or a simple meal. Or a handful of daisies.

That is, until said coffee is in the just-right mug, wrapped with weighted warmth around your hand. Or the unfussy yet soul-warming dinner is passed between friends in the perfect dish. And those garden-variety flowers? They radiate color and joy when placed in a vase made with love.

Kindred Makery was born from a desire to elevate those everyday moments of connection and community that sustain us. Founded by Hannah Webb and Maddi Meglic, two friends who turned their hobbies into a small business, Kindred Makery has quickly built a loyal following of fans who love the beautiful functionality and timeless aesthetic of their mugs, vases, dinnerware, and other kitchen staples.

“As a culture, I feel like we’re always in ‘go’ mode. Sitting down at a table with friends and family has become a lost art,” reflects Meglic. “Hopefully, having beautiful functional pieces [like these] will encourage people to slow down and appreciate sharing a meal or a moment with others. We love when people tell us stories about how they use our pieces or gift them to their friends . . . and create these experiences within their relationships.”

Timeless Aesthetic of Kindred Makery

Classic neutrals ensure that every home, no matter the decor style, can tap into those intentional exchanges. “Accessibility is important to us,” adds Webb. “We want everybody to feel like it matches their kitchen. Our [pieces] feel very timeless, like an heirloom piece that can be passed down, not just something trendy. It’s going to last and bring the same joy forever, not just in the moment.”

With everything from custom dinner plate sets to toddler-perfect berry bowls in their collection, it isn’t entirely surprising that a clear favorite has emerged: the iconic Everyday Mug. “It’s one of our most beloved pieces,” says Webb. “We’ve had a lot of people buy them in different glazes or gift multiples, so they are connected to their friends and family in that way. Obviously, you can go to a store and get a mass-produced mug, but it’s not the same experience as finding one uniquely fitted to your hand.” Kindred Makery has also honored requests for custom mugs for people with physical disabilities, such as those needing a larger handle.

When the wheel stops spinning, the kiln cools down, and the market is over, it is once again community that is most rewarding for the two friends. “We’re grateful to be doing what we’re doing, and every single day we’re reminded that our awesome customers, friends, and community allow us to do this,” says Meglic. “We don’t take it for granted, and we’re very grateful.”
