Why use a back porch only during one season?
Porch spaces that are more available throughout the year have become quite popular. This is thanks to recent innovation in products that make this type of year-round space a reality. Greenville homeowners Joe Watson and Amy Sutherland have created a space that allows them to utilize their porch in any season.
Watson and Sutherland knew when building their home that they wanted the ability to use their porch in all four seasons. Their builder, Jon Peery of Peery Homes, knew how to make that happen. The porch is attached to the home just off the den and kitchen area, allowing for easy access to both inside and outside. Amy, a Master Gardener and a beekeeper, wanted visual access to the hives in the backyard. An abundance of windows has provided just the right vantage point to keep an eye on the hives. Joe was looking for a comfortable spot to spend some relaxing leisure time, and a porch swing has become his favorite place to hangout.
Scenic and gorgeously decorative—who wouldn’t want to spend time in this serene environment?

The enclosed porch ceiling of stained cypress wood echoes the ceiling in the nearby den, providing a visual connection between the two rooms. The doors leading to the outside are set on barnwood door hardware, eliminating the doors from intruding into the room. The floor is bluestone.
