A look at how personal details and exceptional views brought the Greywood Home to life
“This project is one of those moments where, once you build it and see the design and the view come to life, it feels like you hit the sweet spot on the bat: you think, ‘wow, we nailed this,’” reflects Steve Carson of CarsonSpeer Builders. “It was just so well done, and so well thought through.”
That sentiment is shared by all who brought the Greywood Home in the Chanticleer neighborhood to life—from the owners to the landscaping and interior designers. The owners brought on a dream team to reimagine this mid-century, 3-story family home: CarsonSpeer, Tindall Architecture Workshop, Griffin Associates Interior Design and DabneyCollins.
“One of the most striking things about this house – and this lot – is how it sits, and its view of the river and golf course. The redesign really capitalizes on that feature,” says Carson. “When you approach the front door, you look straight through the family room [and out onto] the golf course. It’s awe inspiring, and Matt Tindall really knocked it out of the park.”
The view is only matched by the level of personal details that bring both beauty and functionality. A light-filled layout allows the house to melt into the surrounding landscape; custom laundry room features are designed to celebrate the owners’ dogs; and a gem-like office is a true captain’s seat, commanding a 180-degree view of the green golf course.
“One of the things that we do in our residential work is take the time to hone in on all the little details that make a house specific to [the owners]—and there’s a million different scenarios and examples throughout this house,” says Tindall. “For instance, we designed a cool little dog gate that pockets out of the wall in the exact right spot. There’s a special golf cart entrance on the side, so he can scoot right down to the course. And there are particular electrical outlets inside bathroom drawers where [the client] keeps her hair dryer. It’s down to that level of detail.”
The result is spectacular—but the journey there was a smooth ride, too. “The beauty of custom construction is that you can build anything you want. The curse of custom construction is that you can build anything you want,” laughs Carson, who points out that challenges and changes are something his team works hard to address and resolve early on, paving the way for a better experience for all parties—even if pivots still happen. “That way, the client can enjoy the process and know what it’s going to cost.”
Shared Vision brings The Greywood Home to Life
The Greywood Home is a shining example of what can be achieved through intentional vision and engaged partnership. “The owners are the best kind of client that you want to have, because they really pushed me to think through a lot of the details—to say, let’s do more, let’s do better. How can we [create something] really special and unique?” says Tindall. “We truly feel privileged to be part of forever home projects like this. It takes a special client that respects and understands what we do to allow us to come in and really get personal with them—because you have to be intimate to create a house as unique and detailed as this.”
Leveling Up

New terraced retaining walls allowed the home to go from 3 stories with a basement to a level two stories with an infinity pool.
Staircase – Elegant Lighting
From a varied blend of bespoke light fixtures throughout, to bright natural light, the Greywood Home shines. “Natural light is something I’m always invested in. A house filled with light is super comfortable and enjoyable,” adds Matt Tindall.
Planning Ahead
This ‘forever home’ also considers staying healthy and aging gracefully. There’s a fully equipped home gym and a space left for a future elevator to be installed.
The Captain’s Chair
The home office features built-in shelving and wrap-around floor-to-ceiling windows that can be opened to let the breeze in. “The desk in the office, looking out…That’s like the captain’s seat of the house, with 180-degree views. You get the golf course, you get the pool, you get all the natural light. Just being in that office itself is pretty spectacular,” says Matt Tindall.
Style Forward
The Greywood Home is a great example of transitional with a modern farmhouse feel. Rustic, warm, and modern interior design took on a personal note when the homeowners brought on Griffin Associates Interior Design, whose lead designer, Angel, also happens to be their neighbor.
Made to Entertain
“I particularly love the pantry In this house, it’s almost an extension of the kitchen—there are no doors, it’s kind of just a pass-through but it just brings all kinds of crazy functionality to how they might entertain, how they work in the kitchen, how they pass through to the outdoors. It’s really unique, almost like a secondary kitchen,” says Matt Tindall.
Mastering the View
While most of the home layout is linear, the left-hand side is set at a very intentional angle. The view from the primary bedroom was designed to focus on one of the owner’s favorite holes on the course, so he can keep an eye on that particular green while lounging in bed or reading. “In that respect, the house was really tailored to the site,” says Matt Tindall.
Truly His & Hers
A novel primary bath design resulted in both owners truly having their own ‘side’: The vanity, the tub, and the shower are all accessible from either of the two bathroom entrances.
Designed for Dog Lovers
The laundry room includes pup-specific details like a 42” high pocket doggy door, dog bath, and built-in water faucets, and food bowls.
