A rich mix of materials yields sophisticated results in this Nandina Home & Design project
Tammy and Mike Zimmerman had spent several years on a sheep farm in Kentucky and were looking for something new. After a satisfying experience working on a beach home at Kiawah Island with Ashley Diggelmann, a lead designer formerly with Nandina Home & Design, they wanted the same team to tackle their new build near Augusta Road in Greenville.
“We wanted it to be warm and inviting,” says Tammy Zimmerman. “We were able to collaborate and get a beautiful look. [Nandina Home] was great.” Matt Ruth of Trehel Tailored Homes headed up the building team.
Inside the timeless, French chateau-inspired exterior, Nandina Home layered family heirlooms, one-of-a-kind antiques, and items collected during travels atop a soft, neutral palette anchored with rift-sawn white oak. Used liberally in the kitchen, living room, study, and other key spots, the wood’s light, clean undertone allowed Nandina to collaborate with Cornish Custom Cabinetry to create intricate beaded details, reeded elements, and diamond accents on shelving and cabinetry.
“We wanted to combine the antiques she was bringing with her, and the beautiful chandeliers, with sleeker pieces,” says BethAnn Connor, a lead designer at Nandina Home who worked alongside Diggelmann on the project. “She has so many old books, china pieces, and art, and it was exciting to see all of that come to life.”
After those years on the sheep farm, Zimmerman has a particular fondness for the animal, so subtle nods are sprinkled into throughout the home. “It reminds me of my barn and my sheep,” she says.
In the kitchen, Vittara quartzite on counters, backsplash, and waterfall island brings in the creams and blacks found throughout the home. The custom banquette creates the perfect spot for one of Tammy Zimmerman’s stunning chandeliers. Diggelmann appreciates the Newport brass used in the kitchens and baths. “It’s a living finish, with a natural tarnish to it, so it gives it that lived in look,” she says.
The dining room offers a new twist on color drenching. The trim (painted Sherwin-Williams Shiitake), the grasscloth wallpaper, and the silk drapes are the same tone of warm beige-tan, but the variety of materials yields textural interest. The Century chairs were inspired by Klismos chairs, known for gracefully flared legs and curved backrests.
One of Diggelmann’s favorite aspects of the design is the Lewis & Wood Papyrus pattern, sprinkled throughout the home on bedroom curtains, the powder room wallpaper, and as pillow fabric. “It makes a statement across multiple spaces and quickly became a signature detail the clients couldn’t get enough of,” Diggelmann says.
The Nandina team appreciated Tammy Zimmermann’s vision and her openness to new ideas. “It was so much fun collaborating with her,” Connor says. “She knows what she likes, and we all created something beautiful together.”

The homeowner’s antiques, dramatic lighting, and geometric black-and-white floors mix with stairs crafted from rift-sawn white oak.
In the kitchen, Vittara quartzite on the countertops and backsplash anchors custom white oak cabinets with Newport brass pulls. The homeowners’ own lighting accents the custom banquette.
The color drenched dining room brings in texture with grasscloth wallpaper and silk drapes, plus Century chairs in a quatrefoil pattern.
The Lewis & Wood Papyrus print became a signature detail around the home in several shades. The primary suite drapes feature the pattern in the quince colorway.
Lower: Cornish Custom Cabinetry collaborated with Nandina Home to create custom built-ins in the living room with intricate bead detailing. The homeowner had a collection of accessories that perfectly filled the open shelving.
